Teaching has been a part of my life for more than forty years. (GASP how can that be when you are so young?). I was married when I was two weeks shy of eighteen. Steven (my husband) and I worshipped at a small church (less than 60 members at the time) and I began to teach Bible school to nursery, toddlers, preschoolers and elementary age children in my early twenties.
When I was twenty-six I became a paraprofessional at the elementary school I had attended and where my oldest son was attending. As a parapro I taught in many contexts: media center, subbing in classrooms that needed a quick fill-in teacher, and as I helped installk and introduce PCs and electronic media, I began teaching educators. When I was thirty-five I obtained my teaching credentials and became a certified teacher. From the classroom I would also continue supporting my teacher peers as a building level technical support or building sysop (system operator).
In the last fifteen years of my full-time professional career, eleven of those years were spent as an Instructional Coach, an official role as teacher/collaborator/coach for educators. Since retirement, my teaching role has morphed into ongoing support for my friends in many roles (mostly technology and some craft-making).
Currently I find myself tasked with workshop style jewelry-making classes. This role has evolved from my love for jewelry-making and a desire to stay current with trends but with a lessening need to sell my creations face-to-face in artisan and holiday markets. Where this teaching stage will take me is anyone's guess, but in the end, once a teacher, always a teacher no matter the location, subject matter, or the student in need. See you in class. :-)
